I have a 02 PSD with 120K and looking for a little better mileage and the HP gains andy suggestions on which one is better.....I plan on dumping the truck in the next year for another 7.3 so I would like to be able to use it on that one as well....any help appreciated!
Thanks
Performance wise either will be very very close, make your decision on the features each has. The Predator is my favorite, it has full as yoyu drive diagnostics, can record up to 30 minutes of drive time for helping th edealer find your problem, is upgradeable over the internet when new programs are produced etc etc. Call us if you want, we stock both them and the Superchips and Edge programmers and will be glad to help you.
i have the diablo predator... it works well... it works better with the sonnax, but the "hard" tranny setting is not bad either... it reads and clears codes, and it can also give you some real time data as you drive... i like to keep an eye on intake temps, engine rpm, vehicle speed and some others... i don't know what the bully dog is like, but i think the predator is a really decent product...
I'm on the fence as well, now that I have my new guages . From the majority of the posts I've read the Diablo Predator seems to be the way to go on programmers. Any rebuttle will be duely noted. I know Tipton burns a mean chip but I want something to tide me over until all my mods are done (are they ever really done?) By the way, which programmer in your opinions is lower on EGTs (under normal driving conditions)? Cruising empty at 70mph at 2200rpm my EGT hovers around 800 degrees. Thanks for the input.
i have heard that my predator is on the high side of the egt numbers... and it certainly can build egts fast... dump a lot of fuel and that will happen.. but with the kwik filter and the btm on my stock exhaust... i don't have any problems with egts.... one thing i do need to get is the wicked wheel... the tuner dumps so much fuel that i now have a serious compressor wheel stall when i pull the 5ver.... at speeds under 65 i have to shut down the overdrive or she'll stall real bad if i start to pull a moderate hill... no problems when the rpms are up a little higher, like running around 75...! if i could safely run my truck and 5ver at say... 84... i wouldn't have to downshift for anything..!
speaking from experience, you will DEFFINATELY want to add the wheel, and probably a 4" turbo back exhaust to really help keep the egt's down... whatever you choose for a tuner, you will need to elimate those weak points if you are going to tow something that big...
i tow a 32 foot toy hauler and i dont notice any problems with the turbo at 65 what exactly does it feel like johnny? my predator is set on the 40hp tow.

i get a serious "flutter" sound and then the compressor stalls and if i don't back out of the throttle, i loose about half of my boost... again, this is only when towing at speeds below 65 and in overdrive, which i probably should not be doing anyway.... stay out of od and no problems... i think that out on the highway running 70mph or better i would not have this problem, but i have a trip to do next weekend, gonna tow the 5ver up into the mountains... got some pretty decent sized grades to climb... we'll see how she does...!
i use the 60hp program if i am just pulling the enclosed trailer... i use the 40hp tow program when i tow the 5ver because it weighs 10k lbs... when you start to tow that kind of weight up the mountains... you gotta watch that pyro gauge real close, and keep an eye on your tranny temps too...! it's not worth blowing up your psd just to get where you are going a little quicker..!
good luck to you, just remember, those big tires you have will make it harder for you mule to tow a load.... those tires change the "actual" gear ratio because they cover more ground per revolution than the original size tires.. i've never run tires that big, so i don't know how much they will effect the performance of your rig when towing... i've heard you have some pretty big mountains in montana... i haven't seen them, but i hope to visit someday...! let me know how it goes..! i'll try to remember to post after next weekend about my trip...
