Lie-O-Meter

I have a 05 with the 6.0 psd my lie-o-meter does not seem to update very quickly I can drive for about 50 mi before it even changes and the milage is off I can hand calc and get 17.3 and the lie-o-meter will only show 14 maybe 15 is this normal for these trucks

Thanks Richard

Yes and No.....

Sometimes the overhead "lie-o-meter" is as it's name implies.....a liar.

For some of us others, it can be quite accurate. For last little while, mine has exceptionally accurate. (as far as avg. mpg. is concerned 17.8).

In time, yours will either become better at what it should be doing or worse. It just varies from truck to truck....

That is exactly how mine works. I also have an '05 witht he 6.0l. The Lie-o-meter says i get around 12.5 in town but hand calculator shows anywhere from 13.5 to 15. On the highway it usually is about .5 lower than actual.

I don't think the MPG reading is an instant, real-time figure. I think it's the average since the last time it was reset. The more miles since you've reset, the slower it is to show any change.

I think the lie o meter is actually pretty good over the longer haul, as it seems to be calculating a rolling average based on fuel injected vs mileage travelled. Mine is reading slightly lower than my overall average over 11,000 Km. Mostly city with some highway I am reading 5.9 Km/L or 15 MPG ish. My hand calc over all tanks of fuel shows the same. If I start on a long trip, it seems to take about 100Km or 60 miles of travel before it starts to go up slowly towards my all time hi of 21 MPG. If I run a full tank hwy only it creeps into 21 MPG (7.2 Km/L) until city driving and then it seems to go down fast. Essentially I think its doing a rolling average with some bias towards the last 200 Km or 120 Miles. After a short while city driving it would stay at 6.0 Km/L or 15.6 or so MPG I get when I hand calc but my heavy foot or lots of idle time brings it down pretty fast to 5.8 or 5.9. Direct proportion to Hemi beside me at a light :-)

According to the manual it is based on an average of gallons of fuel used per 100 mile's of travel.

Bingo!!! If you reset it it will change very quickly. Sit & let it idle at a stop light and watch the mileage plummit! As far as accuracy I have found that mine is very accurate if I do not try to do anything funny when filling up. 2 auto shut offs at the pump and that's all. Just for fun when running your hand calcs vary the fuel by 1 gallan or so it has about a 5% change for your mileage (assuming you refill at about 21 gallons)

I have found mine to be within 2% which is exactly what my speedo seems to be off according to the roadside radars.

Mine reads .3 mpg high consistently. I reset every top off. bedwards good thought! That speedo discrepancy might account for the error.

Just filled up today:
Lie-o-meter 16.1
Hand calc 16.0
Not to shabby!
Now if I could just get it to read 18.1
Cheers,
Bryce

Amen to that If I could get mine to 18 I'd be driving it instead of my 01 Crown Vic because it would be cheaper.
