Question 4" exhaust

I'm new to the PSD family & 1st time posting on site. I have a 2000 F-250SD supercab w/7.3l,6speed,2wheel drive. Up grades so far are,K&N air filter,DP tuner(haven't tuned yet). I'm in the process of getting a 4" exhaust.

Question is which exhaust to get. 14g, 16g, straight,or with muffler, aluminized or stainless steal. Your help in this matter would be a great help.

bjvagts,

Most folks want to hear the exhaust when they flat foot the go pedal but want it to be pretty stock when cruising, if that's what you want get a system with a muffler. You must check to to make sure the muffler is actually packed with something, lots of them out there are actually hollow cans that resonate some and they create a small restriction, which is exactly the opposite of why you want a system in the first place.

Check out our MBRP systems, we have them in aluminized, 409 and 304 stainless in singles and duals. The material you select depends on how long you want it to last and how particular you are about your truck. The stock material that came on the is 409, it's our most popular material, if you live in the South and don't plan to keep the truck very long aluminized will work fine, if you live in some place like Chicago and drive a lot in the winter 304 might be something to think about etc. If you have any questions let us know, just call we'll be glad to help you.

Let me stress something before you crank up the tuner...

GET GAUGES!!!!!!

Your EGT can skyrocket and you need to know when enough is enough.
Several of the sponsors here have different types, personally, I like DiPricol. Most folks have them mounted in an A-Pillar.
Hit the sponsors and click on gauges.

Your exhaust decision should be based on personal preference (sound) and your situation. I see you live in Kentucky so I'd probably consider stainless steel for the exhaust. The salt and snow in the winter will just eat that exhaust. There are two kinds of stainless, T304 and T409. The T304 is the best but MUCH more expensive. It will keep its shine and looks for quite a long time. The T409 is cheaper but it has some iron in it. This means it will turn a brownish color that you might not like. If looks aren't too important then I'd go with the T409 to save you some $$. I'd also go with the 14 gauge if you can. Straightpipe sounds very very good but if you'll get annoyed by it on long trips then I would consider a muffled system.

Good luck with the decision and remember to buy from one of our sponsors if you can!!

what do you mean by "eat" the system? do you mean the finish, or do you mean eat a hole right through the pipe?

i have a MBRP 4'' aluminized system on my truck. the way i have the muffler (bi-directional) is so that it actually quieter in the cab but louder outside, lets the turbo wail out under hard acceleration. it was really cheap, $354, plus a T-304 tip and shipping. i got mine from black cloud diesel ( a sponsor here) and i could not be happier. looking back, i probably would wanted to spend the extra $200 for the dual system opposed to the single. check my gallery or PM me for more pics.

Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts bjvagts. Thanks for choosing the best source for Fords.

Stuff never rusts here, so I put aluminized on my truck without fear. Saved a bunch of money too. DPP's aluminized dual exhaust system sounds awesome....looks sweet too.
