I haven't seen any performance numbers for the 3 valve v-10 superduty. Usually when a new engine comes out the magazines pick up on it right away. Is it just to rare that nobodys testing it?
4 wheeler, trucking, and all the other rags that do testing and head to head so called product reviews are not reliable in my opinion and they never do a fair series of tests and then get after the subjective opinions of the reviewers when there is a discrepency.
I finally stopped sending any of my money to these hacks after several of the 99, 00, 01 SuperDuty vs the competition tests
My gut is that the Ford upgrade to 310 Hp was met with limp wristed slack jawed so what type attitude and other then the product announcement of the high HP 3v V10 there was not much energy expended testing it agains the big three.
I get the feeling that a majority of the magazines motivation is how hard the Manufacturer pushes for his product. In this case Ford has never really exploited and pushed the V10 I think because the POPULAR PSD was MUCH more profitable to sell.
That is truly unfortunate because I think the F350 DRW 3V V10 4.30:1 TorqShifted 4 door Long bed can easily beat the competition in every category if it is properly broken in before the trial.
Did you ever see any of those long articles that picked the Chev or dodge but also had table of specs and data that indicated the Ford was better? I sure have. Example would be the reviewers claims that the other truck had better brakes but the data for 60-0 loaded and 0-60 unloaded showed that the Ford stopped 8 to 12 feet shorter. But all the reviewers claimed the brakes were soft and not responsive... I guess in the days of ABS there still are some folks out there that want to stab the brakes and hear the hop and squeal of locked up tires before they think the truck can stop very well. Don't dare confuse them with measured facts I guess.

That be my next truck except I will go with the SC 4X2, 07 is just to far off.

tell em fred. the 05/6 super duty v10 is just plain unreal. mine started at a limp running problem of 265 hp on the ground to a worked out. meaning headers, cold air kit from afe the only right now and a chip that was custom tuned and returned on a dyno by a guy who knows how to big time . to 315 on the ground. not bad for 415 cubic inch motor. with 362 hp at the fly wheel.
Fred , you're right on with your facts on magazine articles. The winner is picked before the road test is taken. A year ago I picked up a 4Wheeler magazine that had all the latest
4X4 models. The Dodge Powerwagon has a fancy antisway bar that is detachable for extreme off road use to allow more articuation of the front end.
The Powerwagon is a fully equipped 4x4 with protective skid plates.
The Ford V10 4x4 they used to compare was a regular model with no skid plates and the magazine writer trashed the Ford for missing the plates.
The FX4 pKg was the model that should have been used as it has skid plates and these skid plates are an option on any Ford SD 4X4.
I mean these guys are not even comparing apples to apples. That was the last 4Wheeler mag I will waste my money on.
I appreciate you all for answering my thread. One thing for certain, I am totally satisfied with the engine and braking of my 2005 v-10! It is a great truck, but being it is so sweet where is the coverage? It really is very enjoyable to drive. It is so responsive you'd never guess it weighs in at 7000!
In defense of 4Wheeler, they test what the manufacturers send them. And, sadly, Ford doesn't make anything that even comes close to comparing to the Powerwagon.
As for getting the word out about the V10, it seems Ford wants to keep it a secret. There's just too much money to be made off those suckers buying the PSD.
I agree that Ford doesn't offer a serious off road package, my point was the 4 Wheeler mag did not even get Ford's off road package.
As far as the V10 not being promoted by Ford, we have heard from guys that work in the Canadian plant that builds these outstanding engines ( a little Canadian pride showing here ) that the plant is running flat out 24/7 with most of these V10s going into Class C motorhomes and you are starting to see quite a few V10s in F450 commercial applications.
I guess this means that Ford can't really promote the V10 without expanding it's production capability and it is far simpler to flog the PSD and let Navistar meet production demands.
Oh well , I got my V10 SD and I love it and here in British Columbia, you pretty much have to order the V10, they are a very rare truck and even Ford salesmen are not trying very hard to sell them. When I went in to order mine, the salesman asked , are you sure you want the V10? I was sure and 8 months later I am more than sure.
same here wrench . specail order. but after driving mine .my dealer sold several more with the customer insisting on the v10 and at the same time trading a psd 6.0.
as to the truck i can't seem to lose this bseg problem or tame down my right foot .
guess i need to see a shrink that specailizes in v10 fever.
Probably very difficult to get anywhere...I imagine. Difficult to find in So Oregon. PSD is the *way to go*, at least that's what the dealers push.
I was thinking out the hp/torque thing again, and multiplying by ratios available... Seems the PSD add close to 10% to the total vehicle weight???? Factoring in weight it would seem the hp/torque would be closer than I thought.
Im getting happier and happier with the performance w/ mine. I just put the Super 40 on it today and it sounds great. Ive got the AFE and Super 40 on mine so far. Ive got the Ford Racing headers sitting in the garage. Next step is tuner I guess. Im at about 8000' though so I dont have quite all the power you guys have
