Torque Converter Lockup

How could I install a switch to control my torque converter lockup? I've seen it done with a 3 way switch. One position is computer controlled (normal), the other is unlocked, the the other is locked. Just need to know what wires i need to tap into and what to do with the switch. I know you're supposed to ground something but I dont know what...

I have the E4OD. Let me give you some background first before you think I'm stupid for wanting to do this.

I dont want to lock it up myself, and I dont want to keep it unlocked all the time. I want to keep it unlocked until I get midway through 3rd gear b/c as of now, when it shifts into 3rd, the torque converter locks up at the same time, which causes a 1100-1200 rpm drop, which boggs my worn out engine down. I want it to shift into 3rd without the torque converter locking up at the same time, and then once I gain a few more MPH's in 3rd, flip the switch to let the computer take over.

For one thing I dont let anyone drive my truck, and even if I do, I will tell them to keep the switch engaged to allow complete computer control. If I sell the truck (which I dont plan on doing)I will give the buyer an option to either keep it with the switch or I will rewire it myself. Being an electrician, I know these things.

The only thing I need to know now is which wire it is...

B/c overdrive and torque converter lockup are two different things. Not tryin to be mean here, but if you have a truck like mine with the E4OD tranny, and you're crusing down the road in overdrive, if you gently put your foot on the brake while keeping on the gas, the torque converter will unlock. With your foot still on the brake and the other on the gas, you can then take it out of overdrive also (torque converter is still unlocked if your foot was still on the brake.)

So to put it in understandable terms, I want to "keep my foot on the brake enough to trigger the light so that the torque converter will stay unlocked", only I dont want to use the brake, I want to find the wire that unlocks the converter and hook a switch to it.

If this is not making sense I'm sorry, it's a little confusing but if you take a ride with me, you'll understand me theory.

Any ideas on which wire it is by the way? I've asked that in 3 different forums on 5 different threads and people keep telling me im dumb for wanting to do this. I just want to know which friggin wire it is! lol.

Maybe this will help everyone. This is how it shifts.

1st gear, 2nd gear, then it goes into 3rd, and depending on if I'm over 35 MPH, the torque converter will lock up (over 35=lockup, under 35=no lockup until I get to about 42 MPH) and then finally overdrive. What I want to do is lockup the converter around 42 MPH like it does if I'm not at 35 by the time it gets to 3rd. Any of this make sense?

alright lets see if we can keep this simple. on your trans, you should have a grey connector with 12 wires in it, this will be your solenoid pack connector, on the right side i beleive. disconnect this 12 wire connector and clean wires with brake cleaner if it is dirty so you can read wire colors. look at the connector with the locking part up. bottom left corner is pin 1 and should be a red wire. from there, the fourth pin should be a pink/yellow wire. this is the wire the pcm GROUNDS to control the tcc solenoid. set your switch up from this wire and you should be ok. good luck let me know if this works

So I want the pink and yellow wire in the 4th PIN? So if I cut trace that wire up and cut it in two, and extend the wires up to a switch, this will disable the grounding of the tcc solenoid, unless I engage the switch to allow it to ground correct? I appreciate your efforts in helping me, I sure appreciate it.

When it shifts into 3rd and the TC locks up, sometimes it will bogg itself down so bad that it will downshift back into 2nd to catch up with itself. I want to prevent that from happening by just having it shift into 3rd, and then a few MPH gains later, i will enable the TC to lockup. Understand my madness now?

well if you want my input, if you know how to use a meter, ohm out the wire back to the processor connector. it will be easier to run wires from the processor than that connector on trans. cut your wire a few inches from processor connector and you should be good to go.

the pin at processor might be pin 53 or 54 not sure

Oh yea I've got all kinds of electrical tools. I'm a certified residential and commercial electrician, I've got lal the toys. So this wire that I need to find down on the tranny runs straight up to the computer? What do you mean by process connector?

Rexsven, no problem asking questions. If you do a search on here you will find many threads about how to lock it up yourself.
