Power Brakes

I am sure there is a hundred threads asking this, but I am short on time at the moment. I have manual brakes in my 71 right now (front discs). My master cylinder went out so want to convert to power. What do I need? Can I just buy a power brake booster, install, bleed, and drive? thanks fellas. . .

Locate a 1973 thru 1979 donor truck at the wrecking yards and get all the brake hardware. They fit better than the aftermarket parts.
If your truck is an F100, you'll need to find a donor truck that is F100 or a F150 for all your brake parts.
  1. You will need power booster and master cylinder,
  2. proportionary valve with wiring harness snipped wires near the valve.,
  3. Brake lines from master cylinder to proportionary valve. If lines are corrode use the brake lines as a template to bend the new ones.
This makes for a great opportunity to upgrade to powersteering.

if you had not installed a prop valve when you put the disc on like was said you need to. a used booster should be fine and a new master since yours is bad and thats all. should be cheap.

If all you want to do is add the booster then that's all you need. You don't need other brake lines, proportioning valves, etc. PB was optional on these old trucks so I don't think you have to get one from a 73-79 truck. If you can find one on a 72 vintage truck then do that. That's what I did. It was $15 and I pulled it. The brake lines won't line up with the MC once you install the booster but what these guys tell me all you have to do is gently pull on the lines until they do line up.

the question is though did the truck come with disc brakes or not. if it did not and someone swapped them did they use the prop valve ? if not he needs one. if they did it right then hes good. err on the side of caution.

then you need a proportioning valve for the disc brake setup. it will make the truck safer and the difference is noticable. you shouldnt have a problem finding one.
