im planning on putting a set of fenderwell headers on my 84 F250 pulling truck over the winter. Im looking at headmans 2" primary 3.5" collectors pn 85651. the problem is that they are made for 1972-82 trucks. didnt the body style run from 80-86? and frame width changed in 80? or am i wrong? i really dont want to spend almost $500 on a set of headers and end up having to cut them up. So i was wondering if anyone has put them on an 84 so i know if they'll fit?
only problem I have is that a 2" collector on a 460 is kinda small for a competition vehicle. can't really tell ya if they will fit, but your right on the body style bieng from 73-79, and 80-86 so that time listed doesn't really make sense to me unless it will fit all of those years, and on. Hopefully someone else can come up with a better answer for you but I truly would look to find something with a 2-1/8" primary if you can find it reasonable, although if not the 2" will work ok.
I've got a set of the heddmans on my pullin truck. It's got a 78 frame. The only thing that would interfer with them is the steering shaft or a shock mount. If you can measure your frame outside to outside were the motor mounts. I'll measure mine and see how much difference there is. I've seen them on highboy's and 78/79 trucks and they fit good, but I haven't seen any on any 80's model trucks. Stahl makes kits that work good on pullin trucks but they fit the Chevy's better than Ford's.
Ive limited myself to a 6500rpm redline because im running a stock bottom end with arp bolts. Everyone ive talked to says 2" should be big enough for my rpm range. i looked at stahls and i think i might go with theirs. havent decieded on 2 or 2 1/8 yet though. they come as unassembled components so if i have to do any tweaking it should be easier.
I'm turning my motor 7,200-7,400 with hedmans and 3-1/2 exhaust with DynoMax mufflers and I know other guys turning 8,000+ without exhaust using them.
I bought a set of Stahls before the hedmans but sent them back. They were gonna stick out so far that you could hardly turn the wheels. You also have to shape each primary to fit the head flange. I have built two sets of them for chevy's and they were easy. But for a 460 they would be a pain.
