a/c problem
my 1992 rangers ac has always worked for me with no problems. I dont drive it hardly at all but the other day i got in it and turned the ac on and i could hear a slight clicking noise every 5-10 seconds, but the compressor clutch will never turn on. It has freon and the red light lights up when i press in the **** on the ac panel. What could be the problem here?

How do you know it's not low on referigerant?
If the level of refrigerant is confirmed to be OK, I would suspect the cycling switch next. In fact, you can jumper the pins on the switch's electrical connector and force the compressor to run in order to see if you get cold air.
Other than that, I would consider the compressor clutch, sometimes if it is out of adjustment it will cylce on and off like that.

Having refrigerant is one thing, having the correct amount is another. Begin service by hooking a gauge to the suction side (and ideally another on the head side) and with the A/C on max, max fan speed, windows down, and the engine speed @ about 1400, take pressure reading(s). The ambient temp will have an influence on how frequently it cycles. Ideally you will have inside discharge air between 35-low 40's (depends on ambient temp) and a suction pressure of around 35 when it cuts out. Lower ambient temp = more frequent cycling.

the compressor clutch never mover at all, i just hear a clicking noise, but nothin is happining, might not even have anything to do with the ac, it just blows like its on vent, but the clutch never moves.

I'd guess that Bill is right, since the red light is coming on it looks like the circuit is good & the clutch coil is probably bad.

I also agree with Bill, based on the fact that it's clicking bit there is no engagement at all.

I think it's time to get in there with a VOM and track down the reason why, as it seems/sounds, there is no voltage on the clutch. The jumper idea noted earlier still stands; it's a way to verify clutch functionality.
