hello everyone, went on vacation over the weekend and as usual something got left behind. my truck keys. I have a 1994 Ford F-150 xl 4.9l I-6 300 2wd. love the truck. How can I start my truck without the keys? I know there is a way to reach under the column and pull the metal shaft. Can you do this with no key in the ignition. All reply are greatly apreciated.
Hello- Welcome to FTE! I have moved your post to the specialized forum we have here for your question. Check out the list of specialized tech forums we have here. There is a wealth of information and expertise here to help you. There are a number of links in my sig below to help you also. Have fun!
Sorry, if you have the PATS system you will need to tow the truck to the nearest Ford dealer.
If you tow it to the dealer, they will want to replace the ignition cylinder and all the door locks. It will cost you PLENTY.
Or you can call a locksmith - they have the ability to make keys if they have access to the vehicle. It usually takes about 30 minutes per key and costs about $40 each (maybe more for mobile - they know you're screwed if you don't pay.)
yeah those electronic ignitions are impossible. If it was old it would be easy
It's amazingly easy.
Take a metric socket set and remove the large ignition switch at the base of the column. Move it forward to run, then push it to start, then release when it catches.
Now you're truck is running, just fine.
If you're truck is a manual, turn the wheel to the right using your entire body weight, slowly, until you hear a crack. Now you can steer, and you'll have to replace a sheer pin and the ignition lock.
If you have an automatic transmission, someone has to shove a screwdriver into the lock-out solenoid at the base of the column first, THEN crack the sheer pin and lock by doing the above.
Piece of cake. I had to do this when I slipped on ice near my crewcab, and my keys flew out of my hand, slid across the ice, right into a storm drain. It was snowing and I wasn't going to stand around and wait. Coat hanger out of the bed box, got in, took out socket set, I was driving in less than 5 minutes.
