gauge cluster

I have an 81 f100 6 cyl,auto,will a cluster from same year group with a tach in it work in my truck,what will I have to do to make the tach work,mine has no tach,thanks for the info,also,how do I get the shifter cone off of the column,need to replace mine,the hole for the pin is worn out,shift lever flops around

The gauge cluster should work just fine, but you may need the section of wiring harness that plugs into the back of it, and then have to add in the features it has. Ford built all of the options plugs into all of their trucks, rather than have to create a wiring harness for each individual options group. With a wiring diagram you'll be able to follow which wire goes where. At the top of this section of forum, there is a sticky about tips and tricks, included in there is a long post about adding options your truck did not come with. Read through that, to save others some time to have to post it again.

As for the shifter, it might be just as easy to change the whole column out with another from a donor vehicle.
