NP435 question
I have a question pertaining to the New Process 435 4spd manual transmission. I am making a dedicated off road vehicle and have a 76' Ford 360 mated to a NP 435 tranny. My question is when i have the shifter in neutral, the output shaft does not move. The engine and tranny are still bolted together and the guy i bought it from said the engine was rebuilt and had only 15k on it. He said the tranny was in mint condition. I can shift through all 4 gears and reverse, i just cant move the output shaft when the thing is in neutral. Before i tear into it, is this normal? The clutch is not hooked up yet, due to current fabrication of off road vehicle. Also, why doesn't the stick go down into 4th gear like it does in 1st and 2nd? Is this normal? Somethings wrong here. If you are in netural then the shafts are disconnected and should spin freely (both input and output)
Are you sure that it's not just hard to turn?
Is it turning the input shaft when you turn the output shaft while in netural?
I'd pop the top off and have a peek, you might have a broken/bent shift fork.
