Check Engine

Ive got a 1988 Ranger 2.9 2WD and I'm stumped, The only time it comes on is when I give it gas. Once up to speed it goes out.

SOP when the CEL comes on is to pulll codes from the computer. The computer should store a trouble code in memory.
