Guys,
I rebuilt my 390 and thought I'd pre-oil the system. I used the 57 HV oil pump and bought the adapter to turn the pump. When I did I had all kinds of oil flowing to the left rocker arm assembley ( cylinders 5,6,7,8 ). Only a small amount of oil flowed to the right side, I mean only a little. I've burnt up my 3/8 drill trying to get oil to the right side. Is this normal or have I done something stupid when I assembled it. I read everything I could get my hands on about assembling the engine and don't think I left anything undone.
The head gaskets are a pair, the rocker shafts looked the same, what can possibley be wrong.
Thanks
Jim Nolan
the tapered one goes in the main oiling hole. the rest go in the other 3. the oiling hole is second from the back on the 5,6,7,8 side and second from the front on the 1,2,3,4 side
Thanks again guys. The longer tapered bolts go in the 3rd and 6th cylinder holes. I corrected my problem but in the mean time found that the rocker shaft had been eat into. Now, I'm looking for the Sealed power RA1009 assembleys.

Before you spend a lot of money, check out: http://shastacounty.com/rockerarm/page5.htm
I was quoted about $90.00 for a set of non adjustables, and when the owner found out I was in the military overseas, he sent them to me free of charge. Good people! The shafts were as new as could be and in perfect condition. If you have a set of adjustable shafts they can rebuild them for you but you need your spent set as a core.
71-4x4-390,
Thanks for the tip, I already have them on order for a lot more than that. I figured up everything I have in this motor and it comes to @ $2500. I'm not complaining though, I'm past that. I'm at the crying and moaning stage now.
