Sending unit Voodoo.....
Am I the only one who has problems figuring out how much gas is in the tank? My gas gauge bounces all over the place. Has anyone figured out the best technique for bending the float arm to read consistently? Apparently I haven't! The truck is a '54.
The voltage is OK, the gauge and sending units are OK; the problem is more of a slo****ational issue. I'm thinking of using a stick.
This is the original tank...are new ones better baffled?
Happy trucking,
Paul

Paul -
My 56 gage does the same thing. Every time I go around a corner, the gage needle moves. Right turn - it goes to empty; left turn it'ds full again! Still, when I go straight for a while, I figure out about how much gas is really left. I really only care when I'm close to empty anyway, and I always fill around 1/4 full. I did go thru a calibration of the sender to the gage so I know it's accurate enough, but when the gas moves, so does the needle.

I have the same problem on my 56, not as bad as Randy's, but mine seems to bounce in quarter tank increments. I know its accurate when I fill the tank, I know how many gallons go in. It's really annoying because I'm so use to having my cars read the correct fuel level. With my truck, I know I'm somewhere between a half and 1/4 tank. Sure wish I knew what to do to fix it. I just don't look at it as much. I wonder if the needle is steady with only the ignition key on and not running?
Randy- You forgot to mention how fast you were going making those right and left turns LOL....

Hate to brake the trend but in the 45 years I have driven my F100, I have only had one problem with my fuel gauge. About a month after buying it I ran out of gas because the guage read a little above 1/8 tank, I took the sender out and adjusted it to empty. After that no problems, stays steady going around corners, actually all the time. I would guess a different sender would stop the problem.
