any and all help whould be nice
No it's not just you. That diesel sound you hear could be caused be a couple of things that I can think of. If your ignition timing is too far advanced, that could cause a spark knock which makes a sound like a diesel engine. Most noticeable when steping on the gas under load, especialy with a warm or hot engine. Is your engine running hot? This can contribute to the problem. Carbon deposits in the combustion chamber could also cause this. The hot carbon deposits can ignite the fuel mixture before the piston reaches it's mark just before top dead center causing a knock. Also known as "pinging". A high build up of carbon deposits can also raise the compression ratio, which will contribute to knocking when using a low octane gasoline. Both cases can be harmful to your engine if left unchecked. It could burn a hole in a piston over time. Best to nip it in the bud now.
Try checking your ignition timing. I don't know what yours should be set at but my guess would be around 6 deg's BTDC. Cheap gas? Try running a tank of higher octane gasoline. Some of the gas additives you can buy in the automotive section or auto parts stores to clean out fuel systems and combustion chambers might work too. Does your truck have black smoke comming out the tail pipe? Incomplete combustion can cause a build up of carbon deposits. If so, pull the spark plugs and check for black carbon deposits. If they are all black or have a build up of carbon on them, you have a carburetor problem which may be the root cause of all this. It could be something as simple as a minor tune up and an adjustment on the ole carburetor. Good luck.
