Ive got a 78 f-150 ranger and would like to change out the bed with a little less dented one. My question is what year pickup beds are interchangeable?
The only bed's that i know of that won't match up are high boy f-250 beds. They can be interchangable but you need mods. I think that an f-150 bed from 77-79 will fit fine.
There are a few subtle differences in the 73-79 beds, but any will work.
The most obvious difference is the fuel door. 73-76 doesn't have one, just a cap in the side, 77-79 have the door. I have a 73 with the cap in the side, it drives me crazy... fuel splashes out when you are filling and the filler nozzle won't stay in by itself, you have to hold it - that's a big deal when it's -0* in the winter. I'm swapping on a 78 bed just because I want to have the fuel door...
Another difference is the mounting holes. Some of the F250 4x4 had narrower frames so the holes will be too narrow for your F150, but you can just drill new ones.

Where do you live????....the -0* caught my eye because I live in Minnesota and the quote above caught my eye becuase I need one of those...even if it's in semi nice shape???
