Warn Hub Problems
Warn Hub Problems
I have a 1995 150, 302 standard transmission(Mazda), Dana 44 front axle. I replaced the factory auto locking hubs with warn premium lockouts. Now, when I had this apart I replaced the wheel bearings however, I forgot to grease them. Two weeks later I pulled it apart again after the outer bering on the drivers side burnt up. due to the damage it caused on the hub I replaced that as well as inner and outer wheel bearings on both sides.(This time I made sure to pack the bearings.) There did not seem to be any damage to the lockout hubs so I put it back together.
Two Weeks later the lockout hub broke and when I removed the snapring on the axleshaft the inside of the warn hub shot out. I took it back and convinced the store to replace it under warranty.(well, I didn't tell them about the bearing burning up.)
Now two weeks later the hub is split apart again. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I would like to fix this correctly. No fun when I replace the same parts over and over again.

That is strange indeed. Was there any apparent damage to the splines on the hub or the stub shaft? What about the spindle? Manual hubs are picky about being overgreased, too - are you sure you didn't put too much grease in there?
Warn hubs have a lifetime warranty - it shouldn't take much convincing to get them to return one.

I have a 1994 F150 4X4 and when I replaced my automatic hubs for warn hubs you can tighten the bolts and they still areloose. I put an extra oring in between the lock out and the hub. Did any one else have this problem?
no didn't have that problem with it being loose. well the race for the outer bearing did weld itself to the spindle. I was able to get it off and I saw just one little mark. Would that be enough to cause this type of damage. I sure don't want to spend the six hundred dollars that Ford is asking for the spindle.
the specs from warn (which they claim is from Ford/Dana) is the inner spindle nut torqued to 60 ft/lbs the backed off 1/4 turn. The outer spindle nut torqued to 160 ft/lbs. I did that on both sides. The passenger side is fine. I have had no troble with that side at all. The only trouble I have had is on the drivers side which is the side that the bearing burnt up on. After replacing the bearings and the hub assembly it self(the part that the rotor is attached to) is when the acutal lock out hubs started breaking. I can't figure it out. I think I am going to bite the bullet, claim defeat and take it to a shop. ( A shop that I know very well and wouldn't mess with me). It sucks.(with tears in my eyes) Fist time I haven't been able to fix the truck myself.
