Weird noise

I was driving down the road today in my screw and since it was cool, I turned off the AC and rolled down the rear windows. When I got to around 55 or so, it started to sound like there was a helicopter in the cab with me. By the time I got to 60, it felt like my ear drums were being pounded on. Cracked the sliding rear window and it stopped. Anybody ever hear/feel this with their truck or know what might be going on? Thanks

I think what you are hearing is wind buffeting. Almost any truck or SUV with four windows that I have owned has done this, although some have been louder than others. Usually if the front windows are rolled down slightly, the sound will be diminished. The rear slider if equipped will usually do a better job of eliminating the sound - as you stated. My SCab does this also, but not really too bad.

The rear window only rolldown on my Screw does the same thing, must be due to the proximity of the rear window to all that airflow. I prefer to roll my driver's window all the way down and crack the right rear passenger window a touch. Circulates the air nicely, no buffeting noise, but that wind noise from the driver's window requires mucho stereo volume.
