[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Jul-02 AT 06:58 PM (EST)] Hey all, sorry for posting in the wrong room ,hope this one is ok
well I have a 78 f 250 w/400 in her ,I changed the pan gasket due to leaking in the front and the real (rubber seals), but guess what it is leaking again can someone give advice or a trick to keep from leaking, also have a dipstick that screws on and is leaking a little since I have done this plz reply Roscoe
I had the same problem on my 79 f150 400.I ditched the rubber end seals and used black rtv sealer. She hasnt leaked in over 2 years.Might not be right way but it worked.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Jul-02 AT 02:19 PM (EST)]When you remove your pan for the 2nd time check to make sure that the metal is not deformed or shaped in such away that it won't form a parallel surface with the edge of the block----if it is deformed it will not seal properly---------to check this ---take a flat piece of something and lay it across the top of the pan and in a Dark room while it is sitting on a table shine a flash light on one edge and see if any light escapes from the other side-----more than likely the pan maybe bent so slightly that it is not observable with your eye---work the metal until the light doesn't shine thru----it doesn't take much to cause aleak!!!-----------as far as the dipstick goes I would put some blue permatex on the threads and see if it will seal it off for you!!>>>>>fd
thx guys , I will check the pan , make sure it is straight and all, Im not sure if Iam brave enough to do it with out the rubber seals though , Dont really feel like doing it again , even though its about the easiest pan I ever took off. I do beleive ya ,but with my luck it wouldnt work for me
thx
Roscoe
If the blue rtv sealer is used right, I would throw the rubber end pieces away! Make shure that the block and pan are CLEAN, and follow the directions to the T.
