i have a 2005 f250 and when i bought the truck it didnt have any kind of tow package on it at all and i told the salesman that i would buy it if they threw in the tow hitch and stuff. so took down a couple weeks later to get it put on after ford ordered the one one the first time then got it home thought nothing of it until today when i went to put on the socket bracket for the lights. well the only way to hook it up how its supposed to it to drill a whole through my tow hitch because the back up the bracket where the 7 prong hooks up to the other electrical it hits the front of the trailer hitch. so i was wondering if ford put the wrong hitch on or is it one that is an after market hitch or maybe someone else had this problem and could tell me how to fix it
thanks for any info
the hitch is already in via the dealer and it was thrown in but its different than the ones that i see on other trucks. all the other ones i see have the mounting bracket in place and the tow hitch doesnt look nearly as big
Sounds like they put on a 15000# hitch that was'nt made for your truck. My 05 F250 came without a hitch so I got one from the dealer and installed it myself. (very easy, it only has 6 bolts) You can do it in 10 minutes. It was a 15000# class 5 hitch and it did'nt block the plug. I did'nt like it because of the 2 1/2" receiver it had. Could not find a locking 3" long receiver pin for it. So I had them order me a 12500# class 3-4 hitch with a 2" receiver. Changed them over and I got what I wanted. The ford hitch should not block your wiring harness plug in.
Your 2 1/2" hitch sounds like a Reese Titan. I've got one on my 2003 with the stock wiring setup. It's a tight fit but it all will go. You can get a receiver and hitch pin for the Reese 2 1/2" setup from any Reese dealer. It really is a superior hitch to the stock 2" setups; I've got two of those laying in the barn.

I have the stock receiver, no issues. But I agree with dmp, Reese makes a good product.
I had the 15K put on mine after it got rear ended. Mostly because the dealer didn't have one of the 12.5K in stock. All the stock wiring and brackets still fit.
