it may be crude, but its safer than driving while intoxicated. here, I'm pretty sure I heard there is a program that if you're too drunk to drive, and you call a taxi, they'll take you home no charge, or something like that. its a great alternative to having heavily intoxicated drivers on the road.

That's a good idea and a good program, but I can't help but wonder where the money comes from.
Not saying the program is corupt, it's nice that they offer you a ride home for free instead of putting you out on the road in a state of mind to possible hurt somebody or yourself.
I drove a cab in Indy for 16 yrs. On new years eve we would give free rides,MADD,cnty sherriff, and a few hosp would kick in and yellow cab would pay the rest. They quit doing after my 5th yr,but everyone still wanted a free ride on new years eve.
Friend of mine (not a good friend, just a party friend, we all have those)just got into a bad accident after a party. I had just left and about an hour later he lost control and rolled the car(98 Stang, beautiful car) into a field then into a ditch. Prob gonna get DWI, speeding, possession of pot. I believe hes ok, maybe a few broken bones but thats it. Makes me pretty upset cause I may have been able to drive him home.
I moonlighted as a cabby a couple years ago. The company I worked for sold ride vouchers at a discount to the local bars/taverns. If the bartender felt someone was loaded, he could give the person a voucher for a cab ride. The only problem was, the driver had to take the passenger where he wanted to go... usually another bar. One guy told me that the bartender only used the vouchers to get rid of troublemakers.
Umm, I have to ask, preppypyro...is this from personal experience?
Yes, from experience when I was a few years younger, the driver actually took it pretty good too and let me pay him without him calling the cops! Fortunatly I wasnt the only one too, there was like 4 of us and he kinda caught 2 of us and the other two got away clean Oh the good ol days!
