steering column registration wallet

Anyone know where I can purchase one of the old fashioned registration wallets that went around the steering column.

I am sure that anyone who is 30 and under has no idea what I am talking about here....????? Jim

I have'nt seen one of those in years! It seems like i saw one that clips to the visor a while back in an auto parts store. Have you checked JC Whitney?

Boy...That takes me back a bit.

I have seen a few in old general stores but never thought to get one because I keep my registration in my wallet.

I will keep an eye open for you though.

thanks for looking

Thanks for looking, haven't tried JC Whitney yet.... I am trying to restore everthing to original and that is one of those pieces that would just fit nicely into my 48 or 67...... Every little thing counts, thanks jim

30 years old is the cut-off? I'm 41 and have never heard of such a thing. Maybe it is a 50 something memory.

I'm 42 and remember my Dad had one in his truck and my Grandfather had one in his car. I don't think many folks knew of them though.

Find an older, established insurance agency office. They used to give those things away years ago. They may have a box full in their basement/attic storage or a few in the back recesses of their desk drawers.

Would be great if you find one .. I can remember back in my homestate of Maine seeing them. As I recall, at one time there was a state law to have the registration card displayed !- on the windshield I think. Maybe they used to have them on the steering column also.

.. many years ago!

I wouldn't put your registration with real name and address on it in there. too many creeps out there who might want to "borrow" your vehicle when you park it at home. I am guessing that is why you don't see those wallets anymore.

They were requried where I lived as a child. They had to be visible so an officer could easily check your registration from outside.

I agree with Jim .. I didn't think about the security risk...its ashame we have to think like that. I suppose you could have some bogus info in it so you could still have the "old look".

my state

In the beautiful state of Washington...we are still required to have our registration in the vehicle..... Having it visible on the steering column is not a problem unless car is stolen and then I have a bigger problem to contend with...! Oh well, still want to find one of those although will bet there is no-one making them now.....

I can remember them always being cracked and about ready to fall apart....jim

Bubba had one when I bought him. Liked it, it's still there. Somebody else's address on it. Very nostalgic!

Why don't you just make one? Couldn't be all that hard.
