fuel guage problems

fuel guage problems
On my 87 f150 the fuel guage works fine on the rear tank (converted to propane) but the front tank says full untill almost empty and then it bounces around between a quater tank and full. Is this a bad ground problem?
my 69 f 350 guages dont go above a quater tank but go to zero as soon as power is switched off
