The 80's Cavalier had them. They were located under the battery tray. You had to remove them from under the vehicle. Sorry I don't know of any others but they were a real good setup.
cool thanks. i looked at a few of those but never looked at the battery for its location. i founds lots of the mechanical ones for a ford 6.9/7.3 . i will go back and take a second look at those cars under the battery tray area. on ebay they go for 150.00 used.
Geez, they should not be that hard to find to be worth $150, but then GM hid them under the vehicle. Access thru the wheel well if I remember correctly. I pulled a couple of them off vehicles. I used one on my 85 van to run the cruise control with a 4.9L which did not hold enuf vac under power to run the cruise. The AOD shift points and rear gears were always slightly out of sink. I had plenty of torque if I could get to it but the darn thing would shift out of OD too soon. I wish I had manual overrides on that vehicle. The new truck will be fully manual.
i have another idea in my head. i am thinking of getting a pump from a 6.9 diesel then making a mounting bracket and mount it in the lower posistion on my fe where you can also mount the alt if you have a air pump. i am running my alt in hte top posistion so i think i can make it work. one question though do you know what that valve is mounted on the ford pumps it looks like a giant egr valve with a tube coming off of it.
I don't know what it is but maybe some of the guys down in the diesel forums would. The GM setup has a built in check valve, pump, and pressure switch. All you have to do is power it up when needed. Otherwise it just passes vacuum from the engine on thru.
how much vacuum does the gm unit pull?
the pump on my 7.3 is only pulling 17 inches, but i need 21-23 for the trans to work properly, and the ford pump is $130 rebuilt. if i can find a gm unit to mount in there to work the trans modulator valve for a few bucks, that might be the way to go.
