spare tire mounts
You guys may think i am crazy to ask this here but oh well. My brother has a 95 chevy S-10 and the spare tire is under the bed like it is on most trucks but instead of being held by a bracket it is suspended from a cable that can be lowered or raised by inserting a tire tool through the bumper and rotating it. Has any one seen a setup like this for our trucks?

My 91 Explorer has a similar setup. The cables are known for breaking... Then you loose your spare if it isn't secured properly.
An acquaintance lost her spare on a S-10/Blazer a few weeks ago. She has no idea where she lost it. I just hope it wasn't on the highway.

You could get the setup off another vehicle and install it on yours if there is no rear gas tank. My '73 F100 has a rear gas tank right were the cable mechanism would have to mount. That's why Ford used the long bar with bolts at the ends - to get around the gas tank...

Not with the gas tank there. The bad thing about those if you live were trucks rust like here in Pa. they always freezeup from not being used. So on a 7-8 yr old truck if it was never down theres a chance you would be walking if you get a flat.
