I have a question about shoulder pain. About 3 or 4 weeks ago, me right shoulder started to hurt. I didn't think I had done anything unusual that would cause it any stress. Anyway, after 3 days the pain finally went away, but it still felt stiff. By stuff, like it was hard to life it up to wash my hair etc. Anyway, this past week, it started hurting again. I tried Aleve, Tylenol, Motrin all of which did nothing. I also rubbed those medicated cream things on it, to no avail. I finally gave in and went to the doctor. They said that it was stemming from my neck and gave me an anti-inflamatory drug as well as a muscle relaxer. I just can't understand what caused this. Any ideas? Even my doctor didn't give me an answer...
It really bugs me when doctors throw drugs at every patient who walks in the door. Drugs are not the answer to every medical problem - don't they teach that in medical school?
It could be caused by anything, really - from stress to a pulled muscle.
Have you ever thought about seeing a competent chiropractor? Even a good massage therapist might be able to help you.
Drugs aren't always the answer, but in this case I'm sure the doctor intended for them to relieve pain. Antibiotics are the drugs you have to be wary of demanding from a doctor... patients who come in certain that they know more than the doctors frequently try to dictate their care, which has largely led to this prescription phenomenon. Regardless, he's only trying to provide relief for pain because he was asked... you came in for a solution, not a lecture, right? A chiropractor is a great suggestion, I think. It sounds like you either pulled a muscle or ligament or something... He's probably waiting on your response to the drugs to say for sure what's wrong with you.
I don't go very often anymore but I used to make regular visits to a back cracker. You'd be amazed at how some pains and injuries can be related to things you'd never expect. Find a good one and they'll take care of you or if you have insurance and they'll cover it go see an osteopath. They'll do the work of 10 chiropractor visits in one, and then bill you for all 10.
im 22, and have had problems with my shoulders *4 TIMES*
if you really feel it is in the shoulder, try taking Glucosamine, its a joint supplement. and you should go to a chiropractor, make sure your neck is aligned right...
see, im a VERY stubborn person, and even though i was having these problems, i still worked and lifted weights hardcore... dont be like me... there are excersizes to strengthen your rotator cuffs, maybe someone could explain them better than me. if you lift weights, try to stay away from any overhead excersizes like military press or overhead dumbbell press, Lat pull downs etc... until this pain blows over
try not to sleep with your arms over your head at night, keep them at your sides.
I have a similar problem that flares up occasionally, like the past 3 freakin weeks. It's caused by an impingement, which is a small bone spur that rubs against your rotator cuff when you move your arm a certain way. Ice, Aleve and resting the arm normally work for me. Although there are times I've thrown alot, i.e. more than the recommended dose, at it and not helped at all. If all else fails, see an orthopedic surgeon or specialist.
I have also been having shoulder pains and the wife finally convinced me to get it looked at. My symptons were like yours in and out and only when I did certain things. Well I have a slight tear in the rotator cuff and have three weeks of rehab coming up and then when thats over another MRI. Don't ignore it I did and it got worse.
