Decided on the BFG AT's.
I'm running 265/75/16 and I'd like to keep the stock rims.
Will a 285/75/16 fit on the stock rims?
What about the 295's?
I know the 295's may rub at full tilt but can't I offset a little to compensate for the rub?
I see that BFG has a "new construction" 285, anyone know about these?
Can't find pics or specs.
The old one is also listed, only about a $9 difference.

Yes, the 285's will fit- And I have ran them in the past without a problem other than excessive wear in the center of the tire (and they were not overinflated). Other folks have experienced balancing problems. The underlying issue with installing 285's on a 7 inch rim is that most (all?) tire manufacturers recommend a 8 inch rim for this tire. Some tire shops will not install the 285's on 7 inch rims while others do it all the time. Would I do it again? No. IMO If you want a bigger tire, get a wider rim.
I have Toyo 285's on my stock rims and no issues. I had looked at the 295's but the tire place wouldn't do it. To much tire bulging over the rim and prone to failure according to them. When these tires wear out I will go with something narrower but just as tall. I had BFG's in a 265/75/16 before these Toyo's and liked how long they lasted. I didn't get BFG's again because I thought they performed poorly in the snow.
I wouldn't lose any sleep running a 285 on a 7" stock rim. When you think it out, that's only a difference of a 1/4" on each side of the rim compared to the reccomended 7.5'' rim.
Here's a real good article explaining some tire tips, and why tires that have the snowflake/mountain symbol blow the doors off of mud tires and other competition tires that don't have the symbol.
Go with the 295's if you think you will need the extra widt, you will be fine. If you don't need the extra width stick with the 285s.
I have had BFG A/Ts in the snow and worked great! A foot of snow from Tahoe to Mammoth in a blizzard!
Steve, Clearly my opinion is the minority position and that's fine with me... The BFG A/T that Superranger mentioned in 285/75/16 E rating is probably the only 285 (w/7" rim) worth considering IMO due to it's 3,750 lb rating and a darn good tire. With that said, if you want some more info, send an e-mail to the tire manufacturer and ask what they recommend- JMO
However the D 285's are already heavier rated than the "D" 265's and "E" 235's that came on most stock Super Dutys.
The "D" 285's only give up 100lbs to an "E" 265/75R16, and for my purposes I can live with that.
If you have to resort to ordering the tire you want, you should check out Sam's club as they won't nail you for shipping and are quite a bit cheaper than Tire Rack.

Absolutely correct!!!! Agreed 100% I have firsthand experience with this too and is the reason I am going to a 255/85-16 next. Tall and narrow.
Just installed (had it done) 295/75-16 BFG A/T KOs. I have 7.5" rims stock on my truck which are the minimum required width. Only under extreme full turn does the tire hit the leaf spring. The D rated 295 at 65psi has the same weight carrying of the E rated 265 at 80psi, 3400ish pounds.
Had lots of comments today about how much more manish the truck looks.
Bryan, what size wheels did you put them on?
Any offset?
I bought new wheels. The tire shop i go to wouldnt mount them on my stock ones. So, i bought 16x8's (now i can go up to a size 315 tire on that rim if i ever put on a lift)
I think the offset was 4.5...i didnt special order it or anything. so what ever is normal for that size wheel.
Thanks Bryan, can you take a pic of your front wheel showing how close the hub lock is to the top of the hub cover? Maybe one of the front view showing the offset? Are you saying that the wheel came with a spacer built in?
