micheal t.hi, all,my problem involves my tilt steering, the signallite switch, hazardlites.the signals work, but dont click off after turning, left or right.hazardlites dont work at all.also tilt wheel sticks, any ideas about finding wiring harness/switch for under 300.cdn??? all help welcome thanks mike hey that was easy, and no nasty words either, although i was tempted...
micheal t.hi,me again, were there alot of options on these older trucks.i was a bit surprised when i found mine had tilt, reason i bought it,and it had a 302.is it reasonable to put a steering column from a newer truck, such as a 1980 to 1982??i think some of them came cruise control(the 73 to 79,s i mean.)i will check the salvage yards as you said thanks for your input. mike
I swapped in fuel injection and aod from an 86 and was very tempted to swap in the tilt column with cruise. Alas I thought it was going to be too much of an engineering feat for me to acomplish on something as important as my steering. If you have your engine out and have some spare time I'm sure it could be done. You would either need to do some splicing and conect your ignition wires to the ignition switch in the new column(which would be nice for the locked wheeel) or you need to leave it be and just use you orginal. The main differece is the mounting under the dash and the way the coupler connects to the steering box in the engine bay. It was tempting but it would have been a lot of work, I will just keep looking for a tilt that will fit in directly:-)
