how hard is it to take the transmission apart from the t-case? i was planning on taking the motor and tranny all as one unit out if possible. has anyone does this?im taking the motor and tranny from one truck to another. thier both automatics. is there a gasket in between the tranny and t-case or could i just use RTV?
The case comes apart fairly easily. (of course this depends on how clean it is!) You will need to remove the transmisson hull cover from the interior. The top two bolts are very hard to get too otherwise. I just used sealant when I put them back together and have about 2000 miles and no leaks. Good luck
thanks for the reply. what are you calling the hull cover? are you talking about the spacer or what. the bronco im taking the motor and tranny from has full-time t-case and the truck its going in is part-time. will this be ok?
I just pulled my t-case from the trany on a 74 f-100 because some one used rtv silicone for the gasket. The trans was leaking about 2 qts per day. I would not recomend rtv. Buy or make a gasket for the trans to t-case adaptor. The trans nad engine will pull out together, as long as you have some one to help you.
The "hull cover" referred to is on the transmission hump,Inside the vehicle. You will have to move the floor covering out of the way and there are screws holding the cover on.
