I think I might try to pick up a 1987 F-350 2wd 7.3 diesel this week. The guy told me that he just had somebody put the engine in recently, but it has no power, and blows out smoke. It does run just no power, he thinks it might be the diesel pump or injectors or something. I don't know much about diesel engine's (I'm a gas guzzler) so all the help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks alot Jeff!
They probably removed the pump the wrong way, gear and all. Then when they put it back together you are now a tooth off. Loosen your injector pump and twist it so the top is as far to the passenger side as possible. If this helps, then you know they are a tooth off.
One thing I will have to say is tread lightly on this deal you may not want to get involved with it. The truck is a 87 its the transition period between the 6.9 and 7.3 it is also the first year for the "Brick Body style".
You will no doubt will be looking at injectors and injection pump that is a grand or so right there. Then you will need the return lines and fuel filters and maybe mechanical lift pump or replace it with electric.
If the F-350 was a 4x4 then I may say go for it but a 2wd srw P/U they were a dime a dozen.
Anyhow don't jump both feet first into a hornets nest if you don't have to.
