tranny convertion
Hey all
I have a 74 f100 4x4 with a 360 and np435 looking at changing the tranny to a c6 how hard will it be to convert? The c6 is currently connected to a 460. will it bolt right up? or will a different bellhousing be needed?
also i found a manual tranny but don't know for sure what it is the tag read as follows c6t3ay-1

No they are tranny's for completely different engine families. You will need a tranny from a 352,360,or 390 equipped truck (I know, I know guys there are more FE's but these should be the easiest to find).

Scot, I did this swap about two years ago and it was the best thing I have done to my truck since I have had it.
You will have to find a C-6 from an FE engine family. The next thing is your truck a long bed or a short. They make the C-6 tranny with two different lenghts of tail shafts for trucks. Do you have a divorced transfer case (I think that year was divorced) or is it married? If it is married there is an adapter between the tranny and the transfer case and they made two sizes of adapters and two styles depending if you have part time or full time 4x4. The best thing to do is to find a donor truck that matches what you want. You can then make sure you have all of the linkage and brakets.
