Hi, i had a questin about the fuel pump cam on the cam of a 460. The truck i have has a new motor, which was installed by the person who owned the truck before myself. I put a new fule pump on the truck the other day and i reached in the opening and noticed that the fuel pump cam turned freely. The last 460 i had taken apart, i could have sworn the cam was solidly mounted. Could this truck have bearings on the cam??? I'm slightly worried that soemthing is loose. Thanks for any help.
It has been a while since I worked on a stock 460, but I think the fuel pump cam is two pieces. The inner part bolts down with the cam bolt and the outer sleeve is free to spin on the inner part.:-)
The fuel pump ecentric is bolted to the front of the cam and should not move. if what you are feeling is staying in the same place when you spin it then there are no worries with the ecentric
Hey. Just did a timing chain and gears, my eccentric bolted to the cam, and then had a outer piece that spun freely that goes against the fuel pump's arm. (I don't know the proper for the "arm") My 460 is stock also. Maybe this will help. Good luck, Blair
