Not really much of a conversion but I have a 87 2.3/5speed with a bad engine. I found a 91 rolled 2.3/5 speed with a/c and p/S (mine don't have either). Swapping the drivetrains isn't a problem. My concern is it a straight forward deal in swapping the entire dash and complete wiring harness (head light to taillight) from the 91 to the 87. Also, will things like the a/c and p/s components have bolt holes and stuff already in the truck since it didn't originally come with the stuff?
I don't really know, but. I did the same thing to a 98 body onto a 02 frame/running gear. It takes some time and your smart to replace all the wiring. Some of the things I ran into were little, but I needed the doner vehicle to make it work. Some of the unexpected items were the headlight / taillights had different connectors then the 98 and had to be spliced in. The airbag controller is different on the 02 then the 98 and had to be replace and relocated in the 98 cab. I also had all the modules from the 02 to put with the 02 wiring in the 98 cab. I can't tell you what the problems would have been, but they were different then the 98. And it would have been a problem, as some of them had different connectors as well as different functions.
So you will run into some unexpected things, but if you have ALL of the doner you should be ok. The only other advice I can give is to get the ford wiring manuals for BOTH vehicles so you can run down any bugs. There were invaluable for me...
So I have converted a 98 2.3l with no power to a 02 sohc 4.0l with power windows/mirrors/locks etc and it ALL works and I have put 52000 miles on it and it hasn't missed a beat.
Good luck
Dave
