Posted on here some time ago ago about and engine skip that I had. Engine is a 2002 5.4 and threw no codes. ABS light was also intermittent. Both problems were very rare at first and over several months became more noticable, til the point that the skip and abs light would happen with about any change in throttle position. I don't like the dealers, people just don't care about your stuff anymore and I did alot of research on here and other truck sites and tried all the easy stuff, like VSS sensors for the abs light, and plugs and resistance values on all coils for the skip.
Dealer insisted they could detect problem with their engine monitor while driving for one hour of labor charge which I finally agreed to. They insisted that the abs light and the ski could NOT be related. One other thing that I noticed was that the headlights actually seemed to flicker at the same time that the abs light and the skipped occured. Mentioned this and they said that for sure I had two separate problems. I told them not to worry about the abs as I was ready to pull the fuse on this and just wanted the engine to run right.
Tech gets in the truck with me, asks me to drive so he can focus on the computer and sure enough, right out of the parking lot he says the engine is dropping the no. 5 cylinder. Figured it was a coil but with eight of them at a hundred bucks each, guessing wasn't an good route to go. I point out to him that each time the engine skips, the abs light kicks on and the speedo drops to zero. Has to be two separate problems he says and does all the checks he can do on the ABS and finds nothing wrong.
Long story just a wee bit shorter, pick up a new coil, install it and guess what, no skip and no abs light, who would of thought,,,, just a heads up as I have seen people posting with similar problems,,,, glmf

You never know what strange signals the PCM can get from a short somewhere. Looks like it got the wrong intell from a coil this time....
