Engine Size and Specs

OK, here goes my first set of uninformed questions.

1. We have a flat head 6 cylinder in my son's 50 F2 that I believe is original. What are the CIs and Horsepower?

2. Where can I find the torque and clearance specs? Main bearing clearance? Rod bearing clearance? On my 48 Ford tractor, I believe the bearing clearances were .0025". Is the truck close to that?

3. I have a chance to buy a 50 F3 with a 53 bed for parts. What are the differences in the bed from 50 to 53?

Thanks for holding my hand while my son and I build up the engine,
Danny

Danny,
I'mnot sure about the engine specs, someone should be able to post them for you.

As for the body parts, read the flagged sticky a the top of the forum list, bob has put together a great interchange chart.

It may sound crazy, but follow the link, pick your vehicle and follow the steps to get your specs. I just checked and they go back to the 30's on specs.

You will have to dig for each spec, but they are there.

Hey Danny - you and your son should have a bonding time ahead of you. Enjoy!

1. 226 cid, 95 HP

2. Pick up a shop manual - top of this page under 'shop' you'll find 'parts and accessories' which is a link to motorhaven where you can purchase the manual. Believe me you'll want it at any price. Has all the specs and diagrams you need to get going.

Quick answer: Mains (0HA '50 enngine) .0004-.0022 Tq = 95-105
(0HA) Rods .0004-.0027 Tq = 45-50

If it should be an earlier 7HA: Mains .0005-.0032

3. The bed is probably completely different. Smooth sides vs. raised panel sides, different stake pockets, different rear fenders to match the box sides, latch system, etc, etc.

Sorry, 7HA was the general prefix given to 47/8-50 six cylinder engines. The block part number for instance was 7HA-6010B. Valves are 7HA-6505. Etc.

These were generally called the 'H' series engine. And in Ford lingo the first number of the string is often the year it first began production.

Around 1950 some changes were made and some parts used in '50/'51 show a 0HA prefix (indicating the year as 1950) Ford introduced the 215 six cylinder over head valve (OHV) engine in 1952. The shop manual [1949-51 with '52 supplement] lists all these differences.
