I have a 2002 Taurus with the 3.0L 2V, and it is having some idling problems, when you come to a stop, like at a red light or even when you go to put it in park the engine starts to idle up and down like it about to die. It comes up and down then up and down. It does this till you give it gas or start driving. I was wondering what ya'll think this may be, and any help would be welcome !!
Yes, but now that you say it, i have noticed that when I start it up it usually revs up and stays up around 1000 RPM, but on some occasions you start it, they go up but then they got down to about 600 and it is almost like it is struggling to keep running, mabye this will help.
Sounds like the IAC - Idle Air Control valve... that's how the computer maintains the idle.
It can do it by advancing/retarding the timing too, but it will not run right that way.
Sounds like it's stuck open, and when it warms up after a few seconds, it tries to lower the idle, but the IAC is stuck, so it retards the timing - which makes it run like it's struggling.
I think the IAC is a cheapo thing, maybe $40 - worth a try.
Nothing else comes to mind except maybe a big vacuum leak (broken hose, like the PCV valve hose), or maybe a dirty MAF ...
