another tire question for drw

ok guys, so here goes. I have a 2000 4x4, c.c. l.b. drw with psd. I put a set of BFG AT's stock size and spec on my rig January 2004, I have since put almost exactly 30k on them and they are virtually shot. I have run the BFG's on other rigs and loved them. I know this is a heavy beast and have read where many others have only seen a similar life for their tires. That all said and done, have any of you found another tire you like better and are seeing an improvement in the milage? if so, please let me know your personal findings. I'm in the northwest suburbs of Illinois, need I say more? I'll see everything you can throw at a tire, hot, cold, snow, rain, ROUGH roads, a few gravel situations, and highway traffic. I normally do not haul with a trailer, but will quite often get loaded up in the bed to capacity, but normally haul a lot of tools at about 500-1000 lbs. I think that about covers it. An advanced thanks to all you out there!

I use BFG M/T's on my dually, and it's the front tires that get torn up pretty fast. The only way I've found to keep them any length of time is to rotate the tires. I know a lot of people say you can't rotate the tires on a dually, but that's just not true. You can't rotate the RIM's, the tire's rotate just fine. I usually have the local tire shop switch the tires on the back rims with the one's on the front every 10k miles or so. They charge me the same price they charge people to have their summer tires replaced with winter ones.

Thanks EC, believe it or not, I have done exactly that, when I originally purchased them, they told me that the rotation was included free, all the way until I brought the truck in the first time, then I got hit with the charge. Fine, as long as it'll improve the life, but unfortunately, the rears are also pretty far down, pretty much due for a full set.

I was hoping you wouldn't have tried that yet, at least then you might have been able to squeeze another 10k out of them. Now there is a way to get 100k out of a set tires on our dually's, but I don't think you'll like it. Buy the conversion kit to be able to run a 10 lug 19.5" or bigger semi wheel and slap a set of semi tires on them. I here Michelin makes a bunch of different tires that will fit, from sort of off-road to straight street. I need the agressive tread on the M/T's, so I think I've just resigned myself to the fact that if I'm lucky, I'll get a whole 40k miles out of them. Well that and I don't think I like the look of the big wheels. Other than that I haven't heard of any AT type tires that will last.

I ran my original tires for 47K on the back or my DRW without any rotation. they would have went another 5K but I destroyed one of them because of a bad valve stem. I replaced them with the same brand, Firestone The only diffence is the changed the name from Steeltex to Transforce.

Where would I get this kit? I love the look of the F-450/550 with the 19.5" semi wheels.

I would try Rickson Truck Wheels (www.ricksontruck.com).

ON EDIT: I completely forgot about these guy's. Their wheels don't require an adapter.

I had thought about the Rickson's (seen em on previous posts) I personally kinda like the look of some I've seen, but wasn't very fond of the price, looks to be about 8 bills per rim and tire depending on style. Times six, equals a big old ouch in the hip pocket.

Hey RV, how long did the Firestones last on the front?

Thanks guys!

I destroyed one of the fronts (bad valve stem) so I replaced it with a new one and rotated the spare to the other side so they were both new tires that was at 26K. I now have 22K on them with very little wear. I also have replaced all the rubber valve stems with steel.
