Have a 2.3 from a Mustang I'll be getting, trading a friend some rotors and pads for the engine, my thought is to build it up into a pretty high H.P. engine and drop it in a base 95' Ranger 4x4 jack it up in the air and have some fun. Figure decent mileage, decent power, fun to drive, different, reliable and CHEAP!!! Looking for a cheap toy.
My question is how different is the newer 93 + 2.3 Ranger/Mustang engines from the older 86-88 Turbo coupe engines in the Thunderbirds? Would like to get a cam, header, roller followers, intake from Ford Racing and take the turbo and intercooler off the Thunderbird motor and put it on this motor. Anyone know if its possible to convert these to a turbo motor and what problems I would have?
Thanks,
-Phil
a 93 and newer will have dual spark plugs so the head for sure is different. i know that you probably can but you wouldnt be able to have the turbo putting out too much pressure unless you rebuild the engine with some higher performance parts.
Thunderbird Turbo coupes have different blocks. They are cast stronger and also have provission for the oil feed line to the Turbo. Computer different. If you want turbo, start with a Turbo motor.
