Do a search for "Bendix" and also "Saginaw" in this forum. I cannot begin to sumarize the reams of information that have been written about this topic.

I used the Bendix in my Merc 250 because it is the right unit for a "correct" restoration. There is no other reason to use one.

If you go with the Bendix don't believe there is an issue with the steering column. If you have a floor shift then either box should work. Obtained couple of Bendix's from salvage yard for upgrade on 65 F100 but decided to go with the Ford box because i found it expensive and difficult locating parts or rebuilds. Also, has T18 tranny (4speed) so column was not an issue. Perhaps more knowledgeable member can provide info on Bendix availability. Also, had installed headers before deciding on the upgrade which causes problems if you go with the Bendix box. In process of ps upgrade on other 65 F100 with 3 on column. Obtained column from later model truck and will swap the column mounts and should mount up. Either way, important to take everything related to the upgrade from donor truck to include pulleys, brackets, harmonic balance pulley, etc. Drove the 65 for over 25 years and wish had gone with upgrade years ago, believe you will be very please. As previous members have mentioned, there is considerable info on topic if you run a search.

Good luck,
dave

Ford box, with PS column and PS pitman arm. Usually all found together in the Junk Yard. You will need the pump, pullies and hoses. Best bet is to get all this stuff from the same truck with the same engine as yours. Fitting and matchine Ford pullies and brackets will drive you nuts!
