I got the drivers vent window seal and I'm trying to remember how to get the glass out.As I recall I'm afraid I have to remove the main window and then pull out the front track/vent assemble in order to put in the seal.
1.) Remove the door panel
2.) Roll down the window
3.) With the door open, there are 3 screws on the leading edge of the door that hold the wing window frame in. Remove them.
4.) Remove the bolt(s) that hold the leading roll-up window track.
5.) Carefully tilt the wing window frame backwards.
From there you should be able to dissasemble the wing window lower nut and remove the glass. The rest is pretty much a cake walk. If you need pictures, I can edit a few that I took about a month ago during my restore project (still going).
Thanks, I've done it before but couldn't remember. I think I'll just have to set aside a little time to do it right, maybe do the regulater while I'm in there.
If you wouldn't mind I'd like to see those pictures. I got some new window seals (actually all new rubber for the whole truck) and I will have to figure how it all goes in.
Have you done the windshield? Is it easy to get in? Any tips or tricks?
I'll get to editing those pics for you. As for the front windshield, I left that window for a pro... and even they broke the first one. Rear windows are very easy with the rope trick but I don't think I'd want to attempt the windshield. Especially with that brutally thick seal. I should have those pics up by the end of the day for you.
In step 4 you can see the tension spring.. thats the nut you have to take off in order to get the wing window out. If it helps you any, I put the lower part of the seal in first and then worked my way up to the point on both sides, evenly. Installing the new seal is easy.. getting everything back into a newly painted truck without scratching it is the trick.
Thanks Graffe! Also on the windshield, if your gonna take it out yourself try to cut the old seal out. You may still have to deal with caulk. It's very difficult to get one out without cracking it.
Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure there will be much problem getting it out. The rubber is all cracked and leaking and really needs to be replaced, but I will probably cut as much as I can.
It won't be easy, but I'm not too worried about breaking the windshield. It is not in great shape (the edges are really clouded), so if it breaks I won't be too bummed.

I added this to the links in my gallery. Hope you won't mind.

Honored. However, it may look a little different in the near future after the project truck is done. I'm too busy with the truck right now to create a small site for it but once I'm done, I'm going to start on the site just for some hobby fun (time permitting). If I move the link, I'll let you know or put a redirect to it.

No problem. I plan to add a bunch of links only for 73-79 trucks.
I was just about to post the same question - your answers will be very helpful. One other thing i was thinking and i don't know if it is needed is silicon. Should i put a small bead of silicon around on the inside of the rubber or anything other adhesive?
None at all. The way the seal works is like a barbed fish hook made of rubber. On each side of the seal there are rubber 'barbs' moulded as part of it. Once the seal is pressed into the frame, it seats itself very well. Silicone would only make it a bear to get out the next time you had to replace them.
