Long time reader- first time poster
This is my first post on this awesome site. I'm sure I'll get some stuff wrong but, I'll learn!
I bought an 86 F150 about 5 years ago knowing it would need an engine and a lot of other repairs. The reason I wanted it was because it was so rust-free
1986 anything around here without rust is an oddity.
Due to my nature, the truck had been sitting in my backyard until about 4 months ago. I guess I was waiting for the 'perfect' used engine to appear but it didn't. I pulled the engine, disassembled it and sent it to the machine shop. While they did their magic, I cleaned and painted every bracket, every bolt, everything! When I got the block and the heads back it was time to put it together. New everything inside (except the crank).
The engine's in and running (after replacing a fuel pump).
There's always a 'but'...
It has an idle problem (up and down). I will address that problem in another forum, however.
Thanks for reading this and I look forward to talking to some knowledgable Ford guys (persons?) out there.
Sounds like a great truck. Check out the 80-86 forum or the forum for your specific engine for some more info.
See ya on the boards!
