MY gas gauge wont work in my f250 the truck itself has about 150000 miles on it could it be just the float and if so how hard are they to change. the way gas prices are i really need this device to work.
You have to get inside the tank to change the float. I would check the wiring to it first, especially around the dash switch. If it's a single tank, there's a jumper under the dash in place of the tank selector switch.
It does have dual tanks and I cant tell when The other tank has in it or not i dont even know if it is working right cause i put gas in the back one and flipped the swith for the other tank and and runs out of gas half way down the road. i guess i could check the wiring to make sure cause it would save me some labor from dropping the tank down and chaging a float but the reserve tank is a little messed up
I have a '90 F150 with dual tanks whose front tank has a newer pump and sending unit and the rear one is original eq.
Have new dash switch or tank selection switch.
The front pump seems weak and fuel gauge doesn't work.
Rear fuel tank gauge works but it doesn't pump after it gets real hot out.
Looks to me like Ford has designed a real money maker into these for their dealerships.
But then they aren't alone either.
Looking forward to how this string plays out.
