I am a newbie for posting, been lurking for a while. I just did the Dieselsite ac mod, or tried to. I got the valve in, ran the vacuum hose and got to the part about pulling the hose off the valve and inserting the tee. I can hardly see the picture in the directions, so it didn't help. It seems that would leave the other end open and not connected to anything, not even the valve you disconnected from. So I looked up the mod here and saw a bunch of folks talking about splicing into the vacuum line with the tee. How in the world do you do that when the small end of the tee is as big as the od of the vacuum line. Of course, my not-so-bright self had cut the line before thinking of that. I can normally do little stuff like this with no problems, but Murphy snuck up while I was being a little dumb.
Is there any way to salvage my screw-up, or do I need a new white vacuum line? If I need one, Does anyone know a part Number, or do I ask for white vacuum line of a certain length with fittings? Also my whiite line already has a grey line teed in just before the valve, but I don't know where it goes. Is that normal? Also, Is it going to hurt anything, or can I drive it this way?
Been awhile since I did the mod but, I do remember cutting the white vac. line and using the T connector. Try calling the support number on your instruction sheet, they should be able to help.
I don't think it will hurt anything using the truck, just don't use the max setting until you get the vacuum lines fixed.
I don't know what year model you have but on my 2003, there was already a gray vacuum line ready to be plugged into the valve. It was plugged into a dummy plastic stud on the HVAC fan housing and didn't control anything as it was. My co-worker has a 2002 crew cab 7.3L diesel and he already had the valve as stock equipment, and it was using that very same gray vacuum line. With any luck, you might have it too. You can see the setup in this picture:
Right under the word "trucks" from the "visit www.ford-trucks.com" in the picture is the small dummy stud that the line was plugged into.
You can probably fix the white line with a plastic "T" and then heat the part of the "T" you are not using with a lighter and crimp it shut with some needle-nose pliers.
ON EDIT: If you use the stock gray vacuum line, note that the valve will close only when the AC mode selector is on "MAX AC".
