I am seriously looking at a 1997 4x4, ext.cab F-250 with a powerstroke and auto. tranny. The truck has almost 150k miles, is clean and every record of every service done to the vehicle is available.
What are some of the know problems, if any, with this truck that I should look for?
One thing I noticed is that it seems to shift gears strongly except for from 2nd to 3rd. This one is noticable but less so than the other shifts. One of my friends told me that his does this too. Is this a normal thing or is there potentially something else wrong?
The soft shift is normal, but a sonnax valve and tricumulator springs will fix it or you can install the entire Transgo Tugger kit which is a nice upgrade. Check out http://pages.prodigy.net/stevebaz/index.html for info on buying a used truck, he goes over some pretty good stuff. Good luck!
Thanks for the info. Max. I took your advice and also checked out the web site. Very useful site. I checked out everything it suggested and ended up purchasing the truck.. BTW, what is the best way of getting the cigarette smell out of a vehicle?
Big believer in Febreeze... That stuff gets the smell out of my fire gear and keeps my house from smelling like dog despite the 100 lbs of Rott that spends more time inside than I do...
