If I load up an XLT w/the chrome package and all the goodies seems the only difference between the XLT Super Cab & Lariat Super Cab is
-Leather Seats on Lariat (don't want anyway)
-Power Rear Slider on Lariat (would be nice)
-18" Aluminum wheels Lariat vs. 17" Aluminum on XLT (Bigger is Better)
-Badging
-Carpet Delete on XLT---Bonus (Who the heck wants a carpet in a truck?)
My lariat came with the 18" wheels. If I had to do it over again I would try and get the 17" due to the better tires and more options if you did want to go with another tire.
From my experience, if you order the XLT with a lot of added options, the price is almost identical to a Lariat. The Lariat comes with all those things, plus, quite a bit more. Make sure you do a work up on both vehicles before making your choice.

The power rear slider is an option on Lariat...not an option on XLT.
When I price out a loaded XLT it comes out 2k less than a Lariat. I don't get leather or carpets w/XLT (which I don't want anyway). So for the extra 2k Lariat I get...
1) Leather
2) Carpets
2) Power rear slider
3) 18" Aluminum wheels
4) Message centre and trip computer, compass
auto electric rear view mirror for headlight glare.
5) Wheel lip mouldings (?)
6) Badging
My lariat came with 5 matching 17" wheels and tires and no wheel mouldings but I didn't order it though it was dealer stock so I didn't get to look at the order options at that time though. I know that they are changing them all the time adding and deleting so they will always keep us guesssing.
This XLT and Lariat thing has been a sore subject with me, I should be able to order a Lariat and still get CLOTH seats if I want, I dont want Leather nor do I want a sliding rear window and dark tinted rear windows. I have an XLT now for that reason, and unless things change I will have to order another XLT, I do get the carpet delete because I do not want carpet, Cant do that with the Lariat, I will miss the trip computer and such, but.. I have priced both and the loaded up XLT the way I want it is about $1200 cheaper than the Lariat..
my 05 lariat has 17 inch alloys the 18 where a option and i tg they where got bfgs for tires not the rotten contis. the 05 also had 2 levels of lariat mine the base no extra electronics to go bad. like the cc a/c.
My 05 F250 XLT came with Leather, 18" Rims, Crome package, Wheel Well Lips, Camper Package, Carpet, Special Deep Rubber Floor mats, Heated mirrors, I think that's it.
The only thing my wife misses is the Temp on the Mirror. (it's her truck).
