Brake Warning Light

My brake warning light has been coming on and off for a few weeks now, my brakes are not squealing or grinding and when I read the manual it just states I need to bring my truck in ASAP, may need fluid!! I brought it in and they said I need new front brakes and rotors... how is this possible.. when no squeeking or grinding??? My husband also thinks they were trying to put one over on me because when I first got the dealer the idiot at the front desk says "I really hope you don't need brakes since its not covered under your warranty" Just makes me a little suspicious..

Anyone have the same problem with the brake light coming on and staying lit??

Thanks

How many miles?
Brakes and rotors are made to wear out at the same time on these vehicles.

The pads are probably fine but the rotors are disposable on the Escape. They can't be turned and usually warp anyway. If that's the case, please use some non-OEM
rotors and save yourself some wheel cleaning effort by buying low dust pads. Some Raybestos PG Plus rotors and low dust pads will cost around $160 and it's not difficult to replace. I got 75k highway miles on my first Escape before replacing the front pads but I've seen many people replace them around 25k - 45k miles.

Another possibility if your pads look fine - what year model? The 01, 02 and possibly 03 Escape has a faulty sensor on the fluid tank. If it's full, you might add 1/2" and see if that fixes the problem. The sensor is NOT sold as a seperate item. You have to replace the tank for around $200.
