I was just wondering if anyone has or is working on a 4x conversion.
I cannot afford to buy another truck right now, and since a restoration is eventually in the works for this beast I figured I'd "customize it.
I have a line on a front axle assy from an '80 bronco complete for $200, and/or a live axle with springs, perches, and steering gear from a "custom" '88 bronco that was rolled at a local 4x4 event a few years back.
I'm just concentrating on the front end for now as that seems to me to be the toughest part of the job.
(BTW Mil1ion, a while back you asked for my dso and I, still new to the F truck world, gave you the wrong info... The dso is 41, and I guess the order codes were FO281, TO393)
thanks
Sean
The easiest way to convert to 4x4 would be to buy a wrecked/rusted truck and swap bodies. In my area they sell for 500-600 or less. I swapped my 77 F100 body to a 78 chassis I bought as a complete truck for $275.
Where do you live to get a truck that cheap??? I am looking for a four wheel drive frame so I can take my body and motor out of my two wheel drive and make a four wheel drive.
I don't know about the rest of you, but in Nebraska a 77-79 4x4 with a bad body and ok chasis can be purchased for less than $600 easily. I found one that just needed a motor for $400. It was ugly, but everything works. Small town junkyards are the place to look. Good luck
look in the indy newspaper.everytime i go up there to get my kids i always see good deals.i know somebody who has a few that have been sitting for awhile if you are willing to go to indianapolis.by the way is your truck a pace truck?
