The factory installed CD player/radio is not working. How do I get the radio out so I can try to find out what is wrong? I have tried the two coat hangers in a u shape and got no where. Is there something that I need to remove first? Help!!!
Nope...just those little holes to release the clips.
I have the actual tool for this, and while it helps...it's not exactly a snap either.
You have to put the tools into the holes, and (can;t remember which) gently pry them both outwards or inwards. All the way in does not make it work better.
Get the tool, or just keep trying with the wire you have to release the clips and pull out the stereo at the same time. If your radio is fried, I would just upgrade it with an aftermarket unit.
If you've shoved those coat hangers into your radio too far/too hard, you've already caused a worse problem. It is actually quite easy to bend the tabs holding the radio in the WRONG way, and then you'll have to take the dash apart.
If you're lucky, you haven't totally hosed the tabs yet. Stick the coat hangers into the holes until you feel a little resistance. Should feel like springs pushing on your hangers. Push both sides towards the middle of the radio, and then slowly start pulling the radio out. Sometimes it helps to try one side at a time. You'll hear a little snap when you get it right.
Or - you could just buy the right tools, and it'll come out easy.
