The Weiand and Edelbrock intakes will fit the CHI 3V heads with small spacers. The ports are raised on the head, so they are further apart. You need the spacers to fill that space. I currently have CHI-3V heads with an Edelbrock Streetmaster single plane intake on my 400.

The new CHI manifold that I just bought, is for a 9.5" deck height, so spacers are required. I have been thinking about cutting it in half and welding it up to eliminate the spacer, but I will probably try it with the spacers to save another cost on this project.

Very, very nice intake Dan!!

Is there a market for some CHI heads? I may be ordering 3 pairs and the intake manifold.

I'd like to know how hard it would be to sell them.

I was at a Rod Show in Macungie, PA recently and I had a couple of people who were interested in my heads. They were all 351C and Ford guys, but they never heard of CHI or were aware of these heads. One fellow thought that I had Edelbrock heads, until I explained that they were Austrailian made.
I gave them CHI's URL.

Tim I think there is a market, but the problem is the advertising to those who want to buy them.

The problem with the 400 motor is lack of adequate aftermarket support. Most builders will not spend the time and money to improvise a solution to a component that doesn't quite fit.
Now with Tim's pistons and CHI heads the 400 motor is almost covered, but the intake manifold problem is still a show stopper for most.
We need someone to take an intake like a Weiand X-CELerator #7516 for a 351C-2V and cut it in half lengthwise. Then put the two halves in a jig and weld it back together. It could be built for CHI heads or stock type 2V heads or even a 351W with 9.5" deck.

ok Tim...looks great, the heads are HUGE...could be because the black block makes them appear larger. My only gripe is that i love ford blue and I aint seeing it!!! I'll be taking out a loan to get parts next year sometime so we can propane one of these bad boys.

Hello Danlee.
Always a pleasure to read your posts. A wealth of knowledge. The current EFI project is very interesting. Will help a lot of people.
I heard on the grapevine that CHI is designing a single plane manifold for the 400 using CHI heads. I could be wrong, but some talk on the AUS ford forums states CHI are designing such a manifold.
Cheers
Craig

Mustange70, the new edelbrock intake is for the Cleveland engine only. 9.206" deck height vs 10.297" for the M/400's. i guess it would kill them to do the M/400 intake? there's prolly a bunch more M/400's ever produced/still running than C's?

I just got off the phone with John at CHI. He said the intake manifold is cast with a thick flange so they can machine it for either a 9.2 or a 9.5 deck height. He did not foresee making a 400 manifold. The 2V heads and the 4V will take stock 2V and 4V manifolds on a 9.2 block.

From another forum...

"We ran into a snag, the 351W snout on the crankshaft is .003" smaller, so the 351C timing set does not work. I found a timing chain set, a rollmaster billet. I am thinking that I may include it in the stroker kit, and just adjust the price accordingly. I have 3 more ordered now. This is why I am glad to build the first one, to find out these little glitches."

Jason ran into this problem also because of the Windsor crank. His solution, I believe, was a unique old crank gear left over from the Nascar era. I've been interested in finding a modern equivalent. Are these rollmaster billets custom or stocked items?

Tim,

What cam are you using in the stroker?
What is your compression ratio?

Brian, Yes these are Rollmasters. I have a number of them coming and will be stocking them.

Dan, Getting the desk top dyno out???

Sorry I have not posted the specs on this engine yet.

I will try to remember them tomorrow at work. Are there any other specifics you would like?

Compression ratio is about 10.5:1
