One of my factory front speakers was cracking a little bit, so I needed to change them out. A friend of mine owns am car audio shop, so I hit him up for an upgrade from stock. We installed a pair of Soundstream Tarantula 5x7's. For anyone who wants to do a simple upgrade to your sound, these are the ticket. They improve the mids and highs dramaticly. They are priced around $100 give or take $20, depending on where you buy them. I am frequency challanged at higher frequencies, but I actually had to bring down the treble after installing these speakers. They are very clean sounding and have good tember considering their price. I highly recommend them.

I had the same thing happen to me... Those factory speakers really dont do well with driving down the road with all the windows down... You have to max the radio... Show nuff i blew one.... 
I went with the MTX TDX4602 $80-$100
They work really well. They have good Bass response if you dont have a sub already... And the tweeter is some what directional which is kinda cool.

just wondering... what is the ohm rating on the stock speakers you removed... i replaced a set of speakers in a volvo i drove around for a year and i went from 8 ohm load rated speakers stock to 4 ohm load with the replacements... what this does is it doubles the wattage output of your amplifier... more watts = more power = more heat... but the factory unit in the volvo handled it nicely, and wow... what sound... i was gonna put a sub in that car, but i didn't need to after that upgrade...!
